Problems with TIFF format
Environment/Versions
- GIMP version:
- Package: Installer from gimp.org
- Operating System: All
I am reporting a bug in the 2.10.32 version of GIMP. Everything seems to work until I try to export the file as .tiff and save it on my computer. On macOs, this step is still okay, but Windows can't read the exported .tiff file. Description of the bug
Since I use Gimp to work on a research project, saving files in .tiff is crucial. To try and look for the problem, I have exported a few files as different formats as well, of course, but Gimp didn't cooperate either. The same happened on computers with the latest version of Windows. When I try to upload the .tiff files created with Gimp into my institution's cloud storage, the cloud doesn't identify them to be .tiff files but rather "application/octet-stream", making them impossible to read, browse or download. I would also like to add that I tried downloading the development version of Gimp (2.99.12) and this isn't a problem in that one. However, there are many other bugs. Therefore downloading this version isn't a solution. Since I tried from many different computers with different IP adresses and both macOS and Windows, I do not think there is a problem on my end. I am not very well-versed in technology, I hope the description is comprehensible.
Reproduction
Is the bug reproducible? Always
Reproduction steps:
- Upload any file into Gimp 2.10.32 (I tried .jpg, .png and .tif formats)
- Export it as .tiff
- Try opening it in Windows photo browser (the problem for me is uploading to a cloud storage only accessible to those participating in the research project)
Expected result: GIMP exports the file as .tiff and the file is uploaded to the cloud with no further complications.
Actual result: .tiff saves itself as "application/octet-stream" rather than "TIFF file".
