Shaped linear gradients
Operating System: All
Description of the feature
https://m.imgur.com/a/8KZUUJz in the images there are two square island selections. The shaped angular gradient is applied on each island individually whereas the linear gradient is applied across the entire map being visible only through the islands.
To achieve a similar Linear gradient on each island requires multiple operations, which if there are dozens or hundreds of islands is very tedious.
Would it be possible to have more options for how linear (and spherical, conical etc) gradients are applied, so that, like the shaped angular gradients, they are calculated and applied separately on each individual island.
The Feature would mean that in the picture with the shaped linear gradient applied, the two squares would have the same gradient shading - same fading and luminance. If they are identical shaped selections, the shading should be identical. If the selections are differently shaped, then the gradient shading of the selection should be reflective of the direction of the gradient starting from the closest point to the beginning of the gradient... ie. In the case of the picture, (assuming the gradient is drawn at a 45* angle from top left to bottom right) fading From black to transparent on each island starting from the furthermost top left point, running 45* to transparent at the furthermost bottom right point. In this case, the length of the gradient is irrelevant, only the angle matters when calculating and applying.
Use cases
The Feature would allow for a huge amount of repeat pattern drawing and shading. Shadows on protruding bricks on a wall, steps on a staircase etc could be made easier by, for example, selecting similar islands by colour, or by layer, and applying a single shaped linear gradient to achieve a look of shading on all selected islands (steps/bricks).
As well as shading, it could be used for repeated striation patterns on vehicle panels - like scratching effects by setting the shaped linear gradient to directional erase of a texture to create scratches/stains/drips in The same direction across multiple panels.
