Printer plug-in interface could be simplified
Using a Pro 3880, MacPro / 10.13.6, Gimp 2.10. Gimp's printer interface is overly complicated. Suggest, in preferences, a folder for output devices that allows user to either use their printer's own interface or to use Gimp's printer interface. And would suggest that, by default, the attached printer's interface. Just about all other software does it this way and what people expect.
In Gimp's 'advanced' print window the 'advanced settings tab' does not show anything. And the only icc listing is just the pre-loaded Epson icc profiles. OTOH when I apply a custom monitor profile (which I update every 6 weeks or so) all icc profiles in the ColorSync folder are visible
I mainly use Gimp to correct/enhance color film images that are 40 to 60 years old. Originals can vary from badly faded Ektachromes, unmasked Agfacolor negs and Ektachhrome processed as color negs, 4x5 as well as 8x10 color internegatives. Gimp does a fantastic job, as good or better than Photoshop, allowing me to bring these images back to life.
My work flow is to bring the image in question into Gimp. Make corrections, mostly with curves and saturation/hue and unsharp masking. Actual resolution and file size has already been set by the scanner (Epson V850 Pro). File saved and exported. Then opened with OSX's Preview. Any cropping/output size/resolution changes are done there - a lot faster than doing the same functions with in Gimp, at least how I work. Then print out of Preview which uses the 3880 Epson printer interface.
