Soft-proofing Comparisons
On IRC, @Jehan asked for a comparison of soft-proofing in GIMP, Krita, and Photoshop since he had noticed a visual difference in how Krita and GIMP do it. Below is a comparison of the three with default soft-proofing settings:
GIMP | Photoshop | Krita |
---|---|---|
It's a pretty big difference. However, Photoshop has two simulation settings you can toggle. One is "Simulate Black Ink", and the other is "Simulate Paper Color and Black Ink". Just from visual comparison, it seems like GIMP's implementation is closer to "Simulate Black Ink" and Krita's is closer to "Simulate Paper and Black Ink" as shown below:
GIMP | Photoshop (+ Black Ink) |
---|---|
Krita | Photoshop (+ Paper Color) |
---|---|
In both cases, Photoshop seems to have slightly darker colors than either GIMP or Krita.
