Feature request: Please provide means to copy selection shapes from one image to other images
Operating System: All
Description of the feature
We would like to be able to copy selection shapes from one image to another. That is, we would like to copy the selection itself, not its contents.
Use cases
We regularly need to crop an image to certain dimensions, and then have to crop a bunch of other images to the exactly same dimensions. The problem is that the part we need to keep is not at the same location in every image. Rather, in each image, we need to select the respective part manually. However, the dimensions of the selected part must always be the same.
An example: We have three images, each 1000 by 1000 pixels. We need to crop all of them to 300 by 300 pixels. In the first image, the 300-by-300 area which must be kept is located at (0, 0). In the second image, the 300-by-300 area which must be kept is located at (205, 192), and in the third image, it is located at (648, 314).
Due to the nature of the images, it is not possible to let a plugin determine the correct location of the area in every image. It is also not possible to let a plugin determine the correct size of the selection which is used when cropping.
This process is very painful at the moment, because creating a selection which has exactly the correct dimensions may take a relatively long time. It would be a life-saver if we could create the selection in one image and could copy its shape (dimensions) to the other images. Then we would only need to move it to the appropriate location in the other images. Copying and moving the selection would take only a fraction of the time that we need to create a selection with the needed dimensions from scratch. In contrast to the example given above, the real figures are that a group of related images (same crop dimension) consists of 10 images in average, and that we have to work through about 10 such groups per day in average.
If it matters, we currently would need this feature only for rectangle selections.
Before entering this issue, we have done some research to make sure that we didn't miss something. When trying to find out how to copy selection shapes, we noticed that a lot of other people seem to have the same problem ;-)
