Hierarchical names in layer groups
Operating System: All
Description of the feature
I think it would be interesting if Gimp could differentiate one layer from another not just by its name, but also by the name of the group it's in. That is, the same way it is done on a file system.
In my opinion, it doesn't make much sense to be able to place a layer in a group, but still need to label it with a unique name at the global level. This forces the user to use redundant nomenclature such as: "group 1" -> "group 1 photo", "group 1" -> "group 1 text"; "group 2" -> "group 2 photo", "group 2" -> "group 2 text". An attempt to name, for example, layers like "group 1" -> "photo", "group 1" -> "text", "group 2" -> "photo", "group 2" -> "text" will result in a naming conflict and Gimp will automatically rename the last two layers as "text #1" and "group #1".
I don't know if it's a simple functionality to implement, but it's very very useful.
Use cases
If this functionality is implemented, it will be possible to name layers within a group independently of the names of layers outside the group. With that, it will be possible to name layers in a simpler and leaner way.
