"Save this XCF file with better but slower compression" results in a *larger* file
Environment/Versions
- GIMP version: 2.10.24
- Package: Manjaro system package
- Operating System: Manjaro Linux
Description of the bug
The "Save As..." dialogue has a checkbox, titled "Save this XCF file with better but slower compression". Although saving with this checked is slower, the resultant file is actually significantly larger. When I save my photographs, the file is in the order of 170M with the option checked, but only about 140M with it un-checked.
Reproduction
Is the bug reproducible? Always
Reproduction steps:
- Import camera RAW file through Darktable or Rawtherapee.
- Export file to disc, either as TIFF or XCF
- Edit the photograph as required (in my workflow, duplicate layer, adjust levels, apply layer mask (greyscale copy of layer, inverted), stretch contrast, flatten image, reduce highlights, adjust levels).
- Save the image as an XCF with "Save this XCF file with better but slower compression", alternatively without that option checked
…
Expected result: file should be smaller with option checked.
Actual result: file is larger with option checked.
Additional information
If it's useful, I can make with/without XCF files available on a fileserver, though I haven't uploaded them at the moment due to their large size.
