I asked in the #gimp-users channel on IRC on how to go about to open GIMP and have it automatically open the image content from my clipboard. I got a suggestion from Description of the feature@schumaml to start GIMP with `gimp -b '(gimp-display-new (car (gimp-edit-paste-as-new-image)))'`, but that doesn't seem to work with clipboard outside of GIMP's internal edit buffer. I would like to extend this functionality so I can open the screenshot in my clipboard and edit it with GIMP before forwarding it to wherever I need to show the screenshot (usually in a chat somewhere), for example assign another hotkey which opens GIMP with my clipboard content.
For now I resorted to creating temporary image file with my clipboard content, and opening that with
