Copy/Pasting an image from/to GIMP removes the alpha layer
Environment/Versions
- GIMP version: 2.10.24 (revision 1)
- Package: Installer from gimp.org
- Operating System: Windows 10
Description of the bug
Copying an image from GIMP (either from Copy or Copy Visible), or pasting an image into GIMP (Paste, Paste In Place, Paste as New Image, really any "Paste" option) removes the alpha layer, treating the image as completely opaque.
Reproduction
Is the bug reproducible? Always. In fact, here's a video of me trying to paste an image with an alpha channel into GIMP.
Reproduction steps:
- Copy the image in GIMP
- Paste it somewhere (Discord, Photopea, Imgur, Aseprite, etc.)
- Cry as you realize the alpha channel has not been pasted properly, and GIMP assumed that nothing had a shred of transparency to it.
ALTERNATIVELY:
- Copy an image with a transparent background (such as this image.)
- Paste it into GIMP
- Cry as you realize the alpha channel has not been copied properly, and GIMP assumed every pixel has an alpha value of 1 (or 100%, or 255/255, whatever it's formatted as)
Expected result: Image is copy/pasted with its alpha channel.
Actual result: Image is not copy/pasted with its alpha channel.
