Subpixel font rendering system settings should only apply to GIMP not text layer rendering in image

GIMP version: 2.10.22

Operating System: Linux

Package: pacman (Manjaro Unstable)

Description of the bug

When using the text tool, GIMP is applying subpixel anti-aliasing to the text when it shouldn't. This messes up with correct text reproduction and alpha blending.

Grey text on dark background:

Grey text on same-colored background:

Reproduction

Is the bug reproducible?

This only happens when you have subpixel rendering enabled system-wide.

Reproduction steps:

  1. Enable subpixel rendering on your system.
  2. Open GIMP and insert some non-black text, preferably grey.
  3. Zoom in to view outlines.

…

Expected result: Outlines shouldn't have color fringes

Actual result: Outlines have color fringes (subpixel rendering artifacts) that are improperly blended, with the outlines being visible even on same-colored backgrounds where the text should be completely invisible.
