GIMP unresponsive on MacOS Catalina after trying to open another project

GIMP version: 2.10.14

Operating System: MacOS Catalina 10.15.7

Package: Installer from gimp.org

Description of the bug

Opening another project makes GIMP unresponsive --> force quitting the program results in the GIMP icon vanishing from the Dock, but the GIMP window still remains on the screen. Restarting the Mac is necessary in order to work with GIMP again.

Reproduction

Is the bug reproducible? Often

Reproduction steps:

  1. One/Two/Three... projects are opened.
  2. File - open
  3. Selecting another file to open

or:

  1. One/Two/Three... projects are opened.
  2. Right click on file in finder
  3. open with GIMP 2.10

Expected result: opens another project

Actual result: Application is not responding and not recovering without a restart.
