Infinite loop with long session and big pictures
GIMP version: 2.10.20
Note: bug reporters are expected to have verified the bug still exists either in the last stable version of GIMP or on updated development code (master branch).
Operating System: Windows 10
Description of the bug
It's not very easy to explain. I'll try:
- I work with very large pictures : 15000x6500 for example.
- Specific color profiles.
- I have a high end computer. AMD 1850X + 66go memory + nVidia p5000
- My problem is when I work a long time, Gimp, almost every time, goes to infinite loop when I ask, from a 16 bit integer picture, to transform it in a 32 bits floating point. I have to kill the process, then reload the file, then I can transform it in a 32 bits.
This is my workflow:
- I start with the base image, crop it, save it in tiff 32 bits floating point.
- I upscale it (4x) with gigapixel AI and other stuff. I finish with many variations (4 or 5) in 15000x6500 that I open with Gimp again.
- Do stuff to eliminate artifacts due to upscale, choose the variations I want, add layers and erase parts I don't want and so on.
- Then I save the file (in 16 bits integer), and I finish with a size around 800 Mo, sometimes 1.2 Go.
- The problem occurs when I want to transform the file in 32 bits floating point, in order to finish the picture with a RAW software (RawTherapee) : Gimp does nothing, and infinite loop. Need to kill the process, and reopen the file.
I have this problem :
- As I just said.
- When I open Gimp, do stuff, then nothing for a long time (say, 1 hour). If my picture is really big, the engine takes way more time to do stuff (not only changing the precision of the pixels). And often after a while, infinite loop.
Reproduction
Is the bug reproducible?
Yes, I have the problem all the time.
Thanks for your work on this, it's terrific. Regards, Teto.
