Focus-follows-mouse as alternative focus behavior
GIMP version: 2.10.22
Operating System: Xubuntu 10.04
Package: ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntuhandbook1/gimp/ubuntu repository: 2.10.22-0focal2
Description of the bug
I upgraded from 2.10.18 to 2.10.22 and noticed a very annoying situation. When working with multiple layers, I'm use to pressing the spacebar and dragging the active layer. Often these layers are multiple images imported using Ctrl-Shift-O (Open as separate layer). What I've noticed in 2.10.22 is that pressing the spacebar will frequently toggle the visibility of the active layer off/on rather than trigger panning. I am still unclear how I get into the state where this happens, but it requires some other intervening action such as selecting another tool to break out and regain control if the spacebar for panning operations.
Reproduction
It happens frequently, but I cannot describe a specific sequence to cause it. It is unpredictable and unexpected which is what makes it so annoying -- and initially, it was very confusing as to what was happening since the layer being worked on seems to vanish.
Expected result:
I'd like the spacebar to act consistently as the panning-trigger and have some other sequence used to toggle layer visibility.
