Send to : app
Description of the feature
The "Send to: app" is a functionality that would make it possible to have a kind of collaboration between certain apps like Inkscape, Scribus, etc. by sending/sharing throught virtual but linked copy (or not linked at all) a certain layer or the full stack of layers for certain particular job to be achieved on the same project.
Use cases
It often happens that in Design project we have to team apps like : Gimp+Inkscape to list only this few. Each one to offer it's strenght on achieving a good piece of art but ... the actual way of doing that is time consuming and not that smart
Case: I use Inkscape for everything vector, shape etc. so when my task is done into Gimp (or i think is done) I have to create a new layer from visible then export it as .PNG then import that PNG into Inkscape and do everything vector I want to do but ... also in some cases I may need to do some retouches on certain areas of the design but then i Can't because the even if I do retouch the project on gimp then overwrite the PNG it won't update in Inkscape.
So the better way of handling would be to make it possible to share/send the whole thing or just the selected layer into Inskcape for vector editing to be done then we could save into inkscape and the changes applied into the main project on Gimp. Vector objects can be rasterized or even simply considered as SVG objects into Gimp to allow for more work to be done.
This will help compensate the lack of certain tools often needed into Graphic Design projects that Gimp is not yet ready to ship or may not ship at all and enable some great openign to a really new world of collaborative possibilities between OpenSource apps !
To back this up a bit more: Luminar can be used as a Plugin to Photoshop Photoshop can be used as a Plugin to InDesign (for anything pixel/ photo related) On1 Photo Raw and Capture One are great replacement which can pair with Photoshop without a major issue. Recently, Serif made it possible via the Studio Link, to have a Centric workflow around Affinity Publisher using the strengh and tools from Affinity Photo and Designer; an higly praised improvement well saluted by users and non users of the Serif suite of products.
