Add the "open in RAW editor" option even to edit supported lossy files.
Currently something that is very much missing in GIMP is something similar to Photoshop's famous Camera RAW filter. As we know that building a filter like this takes a lot of work, and since we already have something even better, for example Darktable, and that Darktable allows us to edit images in JPG and PNG, it would be very interesting to add a feature in GIMP that would allow us to open an image that we are working on Darktable directly from GIMP, and after closing Darktable, the image would appear with the edits made on Darktable applied to a new GIMP layer.
Yes, I know that when opening a RAW file in GIMP it is already open in Darktable, but having an option to open even JPG and PNG files at any time we want, would greatly increase the Workflow between the two programs.
It would work as follows: In the file menu you could have an option to open the selected image in the RAW editor, after editing the image (JPG or PNG, and in the future RAW when supported by GIMP) and close the Darktable, a new layer would appear in GIMP with the edited image. We could for example use the same feature to open the same image in the Darktable after some adjustments to the GIMP as many times as necessary. In the GIMP settings there could be the possibility to choose the default program for this feature, Darktable or RawTherapee
