Opening a jpg in gimp displays an empty canvas (checkerboard) with jpg displayed normally in layers window.

Description of the bug
Attempting to open a jpeg file in gimp and either converting the color profile, results in an empty canvas. The jpeg will be displayed in the layers window.
Please describe your issue with details. Opening a jpeg with the File->Open menu and converting the color profile during the import from sRGB IEC61966-2-1 black scaled to GIMP built-in sRGB with the Rendering Intent left at Relative colorimetric and the "Black point Compensation" box checked will only display an empty layout with the thumbnail displayed in the layers window.

Is the bug reproducible? [Always / Randomly / Happened only once ] random Reproduction steps:
1.open any jpeg file 2.take default options when asked to convert the color profile 3.the image does not appear in the workarea, a thumbnail of the jpeg is displayed in the layers section.
