Check if all legacy modes have an exact algorithmic equivalent with a new mode in perceptual
Description of the feature
When I save my current work in *.xcf
format, I get a short notification in the bottom part of the Save dialog that there is a chance that older versions of GIMP won't be able to read the file. Even more, GIMP is so kind that she tells me what causes the problem. For example:
Layer mode 'Normal' was added in GIMP 2.10
That's OK.
Use cases
However, if I want to read the file with an older version of GIMP or with another external tool then it would be nice to save the image in the older version of *.xcf
. It is possible now with eliminating all the settings in the image that are incompatible with the old version of *.xcf
. However, making these changes is quite cumbersome and it also destroys the content of the image so I need to save it in the new format at first.
I understand that File -> Save is for solutions that save "everything" from the image so I think the new feature should be in the File
-> Export
-> Legacy XCF
.
