Use the "Swap folder" setting for the GEGL cache
We got a report on the mailing list that GIMP fills swap files such as c:\Users\myuser\.cache\gegl-0.4\12056-shared.swap
. This definitely looks like the cache folder of GEGL in XDG standard.
Also we got a settings "Swap folder" in Preferences, whose description says it is where tiles are cached to disk. So that really looks like it means the GEGL cache. Yet actually even here on Linux, I see it is actually set to the default GIMP config directory by default (which seems wrong), and anyway GEGL still goes in the XDG cache folder (so this may not be a Windows-only issue).
So:
- What is this settings used for exactly and does it work well?
- If not for GEGL cache at all, shouldn't we redirect GEGL cache folder there as well?
I have not looked at code at all yet. Just filling this in for us not to forget.
