Gimp crashes because of 3rd party "Lastend" theme
GIMP version: 2.10.4 & 2.8
Operating System: Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6
Package: Installer from gimp.org
I recently switched themes in Gimp 2.10.4 to "Lastend" theme. right away, I noticed that something was wrong. While Lastend theme is beautiful, it is a memory hog and Gimp was lagging in performance. I could hardly take any actions without getting the little spinning icon indicating that the software was not responding. Then, a day later, Gimp started crashing.
I tested the theme with Gimp 2.8 on the hunch that the theme was causing problems for the Gimp software. It had the same effect on Gimp 2.8. I switched to safe mode on my iMac to see if I could get Gimp 2.10 to boot up in safe mode. I was successful. I switched themes to "Dark" theme and Gimp "perked up" right away. It was more responsive and was not giving me the "spinning wheel" treatment. I logged out and restarted under normal mode and Gimp successfully booted up in normal mode using the "Dark" theme. I used it on a couple of files and it worked flawlessly.
My conclusion is that the "Lastend" theme has issues about memory usage; it had the same effect on both Gimp 2.10 and 2.8. While Gimp 2.8 did not crash, it certainly was lagging in responsiveness under the weight of the "Lastend" theme.
Both versions of Gimp regained responsiveness when I switched them back off of the "Lastend" theme and on to the "Dark" theme.
I have included some log files from the Gimp 2.10 crashes; maybe you can scientifically prove that the theme was causing the problem. I was able to reproduce the problem using a different version of Gimp and noticed a )significant improvement when I switched both of the software versions off of the "Lastend" theme.
It is a shame because the Lastend theme was beautiful! Jet black with blue cobalt fonts and the highest contrast imaginable!
