Description
Created attachment 372203 8 bit warning
OK, as requested by Jehan, I am opening a new bug report on this problem.
I have GIMP 2.10.0 and Raw Therapee 5.4 installed on a 64 bit Windows 7 Pro SP 1 computer with i5 processor and 8 GB RAM.
Despite the fact that GIMP is supposed 32 bits/channel, when I click on that "Edit current image in external editor" button in Raw Therapee and the image opens in GIMP 2.10, the image is not opened in GIMP as a raw file (which may be by design) but as a TIFF and I get this warning message:
"Warning:
The image you are loading has 16 bits per channel. GIMP can only handle 8 bit so it will be converted for you. Information will be lost because of this conversion."
I also tried to save the image as a 16 bit TIFF and then "Edit current image in external editor", but I received a message that the file wouldn't open in GIMP. So I closed the image in Raw Therapee, and tried to open it directly from GIMP. It did open, but I got the same error message about an 8 bit image.
A screen capture is attached that shows the GIMP message displayed about the 8 bit limitation. I have a 2nd screen capture that shows the Raw Therapee setting but I don't see how to attach a 2nd file.
To be precise, I need to add that another message is simultaneously displayed with the 8 bit warning, and that is a message that says "Convert to RGB working space?" And I select the "Keep" option in order to complete the transfer.
