difference of Gaussians wrong (oversaturated), not really usable, since long

Description
I guess in an attempt of amplifying the contrast, or due to bad normalization of the gaussians, difference of Gaussians multiplies and/or offset its result by such an amount that the result is most of the time totally saturated, not usable. (since many years. maybe since origin). For years, I have to do differences of Gaussians manually with 3 layers + curve-constrast, but it would be cool that the tool finally work some day :-)
