Zoom and pan selected images together...
Operating System:
macOS: Sonoma 14.4.1, on a M1 Max Macbook Pro running GIMP 2.10.38. I'd like this to be available regardless of the OS.
Description of the feature
I would like to be able select a set of images and have them all zoom and pan together regardless of which of the images is active. Thus, if I zoom and/or pan in one image, the other images also do the same zoom and/or pan.
I have searched for this on the internet and posted this question on the GIMP reddit. The GIMP reddit post received two responses. One said is was currently not possible and suggested I post it here. The other told me about how I could do other things, :-).
In my case, all the images are the same resolution.
Use cases
My use case is: I'm processing an image outside of GIMP and saving intermediate results. The original image and all partially processed images have the same resolution. I would like to open them all in GIMP and lock their views together (see above) so I can move around and zoom in any of the images looking for artifacts and then see exactly what that same area looks like in the other images. This allows me to quickly see differences (if there are any) and track down what the precursor looked like in the same area at the same pan and zoom.
For example, let's say I have three images open (in single-window mode) and I'm looking at image 1. I decide to zoom to 200%. When I switch to image 2, it is at the same zoom (and pan). Then I pan in image 2 and switch back to image 1. Again, they are perfectly aligned and I can quickly see any differences.
