Gedit hangs when opening files padded with null characters
This report is confirming an issue first found in Gedit 3.4.1 and Ubuntu (version unknown) back in 2012. I can confirm that when using Ubuntu 19.04, the current development version, and Gedit 3.30.2-1 that the issue still exists. The original bug reporter says: "This file comes from a data logger that uses fixed length files, padding the unused area at the end of the file with null characters."
Loading the attached file into Gedit will cause the application to hang. On my PC, htop registered around 98% CPU activity. I had to use htop to kill Gedit.
Sublime Text, nano and vim all open the file correctly and reasonably quickly. I haven't tested with smaller files or files with less zero-byte padding.
