Feature request: x86 AT&T and Intel style assembly syntax highlighting

Gedit supports many syntax highlighting languages but for some reason does not support assembly. Perhaps this is because is because there are several different syntaxes for x86 assembly (Intel and AT&T syntax is quite different for instance, and both are commonly used). I would like to request some generic syntax highlighting for Assembly. Only the aspects common to both Intel and AT&T assembly need to be highlighted in order for the highlighting to be useful. Here are the things that I would like to be highlighted:

  • Comments, line comments vary by assembler, but most support ; # and //. Block comments are generally wrapped in /* and */
  • Labels, alphanumerical string followed by a colon (:)
  • Instructions, this could be as simple as highlighting the first word on each line
To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have admin enable hashed storage. More information
