Ubuntu 18.10 boots to black screen with flashing cursor, no gdm. Switching to tty2 and back to 1 fixes it.
Booting 18.10 results in a black screen with a flashing cursor instead of the login screen. Switching to tty2 and back to 1 again causes the login screen to appear and I can carry on as normal.
I've been hitting this bug on and off all day today. There was a new version of gdm3 in proposed which I thought had fixed it, but then I reinstalled from the ISO, installed the same updates, and the issue is back again. So it feels a bit racey.
$ apt-cache policy gdm3 gdm3: Installed: 3.30.1-1ubuntu1 Candidate: 3.30.1-1ubuntu1 Version table: *** 3.30.1-1ubuntu1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
I've attached the gdm3 logs. gdm3.log
Downstream bug has more logging.
