Strange crashes with error ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump/SendContinueSignalToChild/WaitForContinueSignal
Hi,
Short story
I'm using latest Ubuntu 18.04.1 with everything up-to-date, but with XFCE4 instead of Gnome-Shell. From time to time, I have a strange behavior that occurs: after a few hours of usage, a "glitch" starts appearing for <1sec every minute on my screen. This "glitch" looks like the clock from the lock screen/GDM: large numbers on a "violet" background centered on the screen...
I see a lot of the following errors in my logs. Does anyone know what they are? Could they be related to the bug?
... /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1369]: ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump cloned child 2476
... /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1369]: ExceptionHandler::SendContinueSignalToChild sent continue signal to child
... /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[1369]: ExceptionHandler::WaitForContinueSignal waiting for continue signal...

Long story
I was using Linux Mint, but my SSHDD (SSD/HDD hybrid) recently crashed, so I installed a new HDD & Ubuntu. Everything works fine bug Firefox & Thunderbird often freeze for no apparent reason. If I run them from commandline, I can see the 3 same error lines appear: ExceptionHandler::GenerateDump/SendContinueSignalToChild/WaitForContinueSignal. I've looked at /var/log/syslog, and I discovered that they also appear for GDM... That's why I'm asking here.
I've tried with another HDD and the problem is still there...
I've tried with other RAM sticks and the problem is still there...
I've tried switching to an older kernel and the problem is still there...
I'm out of ideas... So I need help, and since FF/ThB/GDM seems to share only 2 things:
- using Gnome and
- running under the same kernel
I'm asking here before I'll go asking to the kernel devs ML...
EDIT: as the nouveau driver seemed to be crashing regularly, I also switched to nvidiafb... FWIW...
Thanks in advance
