Consider changing "close room" shortcut to "Ctrl-W"
Using Esc for "close room" has a few problems:
- It's an unusual semantic - most applications don't use it for "close current context". At most it's used for "close dialogue window".
- It is prone to "double-tap" errors - e.g. if the emoji popover is shown, and the user hits "Esc" to close that, but triggers the key twice by mistake.
Additionally, at the moment, the text box for the room is cleared if a message was half-typed, so the user loses that very easily.
Ctrl-W has a more obvious/commonly understood "leave application open, close the thing I'm looking at" semantic (browsers, multi-document editors etc.), and avoids the above issues.
Edit: additionally, "Esc" often maps to "clear text entry", so if a user half-types a message, then wants to quickly clear it e.g. to type something else, they're dumped out of the room if they try "Esc".
