Option to open Plain Text composer in Preformatted
User Story
As a user of Gnome Evolution for business email who prefers sending plain text, the composer should wrap text within the window without embedding line breaks that prevent the viewer from easily reading my email within a window that they have sized so that those I work with are not annoyed at my using plain text email.
Acceptance Goals
When composing a plain text email:
- Allow lines of arbitrarily long text.
- When text reaches the right of the composer pane, it should wrap to a new line.
- The composer pane should not need to scroll horizontally to see all the text.
- If the window size is made wider or narrower, the text should re-flow to wrap correctly.
- When the email is sent, hard line breaks should not exist where the text was visually wrapped.
Proposed Implementation
- Allow an infinite line length in Edit->Preferences->Composer Preferences->Number of characters for word wrapping
- Visually wrap the lines when this setting in the composer pane is selected: View->Visually Wrap Long Lines
- The previous setting for Visually Wrap Long Lines should be preserved when a new composer pane is opened.
Notes
- It is worth comparing with KMail, which does this very well.
- This is a commonly requested feature. See this discussion: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2017-April/msg00080.html
