Hint authentication methods for LDAP address books
Hi,
I have recently been puzzled by trying to connect to my company LDAP server, that uses SSL/TLS username authentication.
We have a list of setting that specify the DN and CN setting along with the subtree search options.
After some debugging with @mcrha in #evolution, he helped me to get it to work.
However the reason i failed to configure it is due to the username input box not being obvious about what should be included there.
In thunderbird there are two separate boxes that ask for Base DN and Bind DN, one which specifies uid, which my guide outlines.
However evolution has Username on one tab and Base Search on the other tab, this is confusing as it seems one is about authenticating and the other tab is about searching, it's not obvious which setting should go in which tab.
Would it not make more sense to specify what should be included in the Username input box, as a user that isn't familiar with LDAP, i just assumed it should be my username, instead of uid=username, etc etc.
Above are screenshots of the thunderbird menu for authentication along with the tabs i am referencing in evolution when adding an LDAP backed Address book.
I feel the Username input box needs more information for people to be able to understand what needs to be typed in there.
