Mail encryption with gpg fails
I am using evolution 3.34.1-2 on a Ubuntu 19.10 system.
To make use of gpg mail encryption, I have a working configuration of gpg. Pretty standard without any customization. End-to-end test with Thunderbird and Enigmail work out of the box, but Evolution fails. So I think the gpg part is okay and the system works as expected and I have a problem in the Evolution back-end interfacing gpg.
What happens:
- In Evolution I have set up several accounts, all of them configured in gpg and in Evolution with the right gpg keys assigned in the account configurations security tab.
- Sending gpg encrypted email between these own accounts works without any issues. Encryption and decryption work as expected
- Sending E-mail to an external (someone, I only have the public key in my gpg) does not work
Error message after clicking the send button, translated from German output: The recipients public key could not be found.
Investigation: gpg command line tool shows that the public key is registered in the gpg keyring. Especially trust is okay. Test setup with Thunderbird and Enigmail works out of the box.
Verdict: Since gpg and Enigmail are able to make use of the public key stored in the keyring, there seems to be a problem in Evolution implementation of gpg encryption.
Open questions: What did I miss? How can I further investigate? Is there a way to log the process?
