Support for preventing sender email mismatch when multiple accounts are involved ( "Send Account Overrides" feature for composing; color association with domains; ...)
The Issue (Background Story)
I've three business email accounts to manage. Two of them are associated with separate email domains such as me@foo.com should be used to send emails to @foo.com emails and me@bar.com should be used for all emails to @bar.com. The third one changes according to my role and is not associated to a particular domain.
My issue is that I frequently use address suggestions based on lastnames which ends up in wrong email addresses when John.Doe@foo.com exists in parallel with John.Doe@bar.com (one person having 2 different roles with 2 different email address domains). This way, I'm sending from me@foo.com to John.Doe@bar.com instead of using my me@bar.com for that.
So far, I have found Send Account Overrides which is useless for composing emails (in contrast to replying to emails): it doesn't correct the email address or warn when sending from the wrong domain or sending to a wrong domain.
Combined the the security issue that Evolution does hide the email domains as soon as an email address is chosen from the contacts (this is a severe problem for so many reasons!), I constantly send emails to bar.com from my me@foo.com address and vice versa. This is highly unprofessional.
Manual Workaround
For mitigating that issue, I have to manually check all email addresses before entering. After entering, I can't check them without switching to the "Select Contacts"-window because they are hidden, which is not a wise decision for security reasons.
Technical Solutions
Evolution might as well help here in multiple potential ways:
- Extending the "Send Account Overrides" feature for composing emails as well. Either warn before sending or find another way of notifying the user before wrong email addresses are used for sending email.
- Introduce a feature to assign colored background for contacts and email addresses according to regular expressions. This way, I could define a blue color for @foo.com and red for @bar.com and quickly realizing when blue and red addresses are mixed up in an email header.
I really would love to see better support for this IMHO frequent use-case of having multiple roles with different email addresses and domains.
Thank you!
