Autoconfig needs to replace placeholders for email address etc.
Followup to #39 (closed):
An email server admin reported:
The code committed doesn't include any handling of the placeholders such as %EMAILLOCALPART% so I can't rely on that for my users to be able to infer the correct username
That is a real problem. The placeholder replacement is an essential part of the file format. Without it, almost all configs will be broken.
I'm also a little surprised, because all configs in the ISP DB have these placeholders.
Milan: Any chance you could still implement that? In this ticket or a fresh ticket?
- The spec: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Autoconfiguration:ConfigFileFormat#Placeholders
- The relevant Thunderbird code, in JavaScript, in case it helps: https://searchfox.org/comm-central/source/mail/components/accountcreation/content/accountConfig.js#174
I'm available for questions (I'm the author of the spec) and to help.
