Evolution ignores authentication changes; uses OAuth even after change

I'm working on Ubuntu 18.04, x86_64, fully patched. I installed Evolution package 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.2. I'm trying to use Evolution with my Gmail account. I've set up my application password in Google security services. I have an app password for Evolution.

When I attempt to use Evolution for Gmail I am being prompted for OAuth credentials. I cancel the OAuth prompt, I go to properties and then:

  • Receiving Email -> check for supported types
  • Receiving Email -> change to "password"
  • Sending Email -> check for supported types
  • Sending Email -> change to "login" (also tried "plain")

I then try to send and receive and I am prompted for the OAuth password. Derp... Entering the [Evolution] application password results in a failed login.

It is very frustrating that Evolution does not honor my settings.

Here are some Ubuntu bugs. They look similar to this bug.
