App (and system) freeze when opening a very large image

Environment Dell Latitude: i7 6-core - 16GB Ram - SSD Ubuntu 18.04 LTS 64bit

On Ubuntu 18.04 I try to open a very large png (see attachment since is for advertise purpose. When try to open, not expect to do it immediately, but the application seems freeze, system seems slow down and mouse pointer is not fluid, almost not moving.
