Onboarding issues and improvements
The current onboarding is a good first step, but there's also a bunch of issues with it.
Content:
-
There are only three pages, and one of those is just "welcome". It doesn't quite seem worth it. -
There's no framing at the beginning or end - no "this is onboarding", and no "you have finished the onboarding". -
The "configure for access" page doesn't make a huge amount of sense. What is "configure for access"?! The graphic makes it look like it's about security, which is kind of true but also not really. The link to the docs claims to link to a remote server setup guide, which is untrue.
UI:
-
The layout of the content feels off - too squashed, particularly towards the bottom of the page. -
The forward and back buttons look really small. -
I'm not sure how I feel about the window close button always being visible - it feels distracting.
I think this is our 3rd onboarding assistant, and it's a bit different from the others (Tour, Boxes), in particular the lack of header bar and next/previous buttons. Those of us on the design side probably need to decide what the standard design pattern should be here.
