GPE address book and SQLite 2 support
Balsa supports the configuration option --with-sqlite
to enable GPE address book support. Setting this option, configure or meson tries to find SQLite ver. 3 and falls back to ver. 2 if it is not available.
IMHO, this configuration option is confusing, as SQLite 3 is required for HTML and Autocrypt support. Furthermore, the last SQLite 2 version has been released more than 18 (!) years ago, and it is not availble any more in Debian stable (and probably other modern distos).
The whole GPE Palmtop Environment seems to be outdated, btw. – according to Wikipedia, the last release has been 2007, and the last disto supporting it has been Debian Wheezy in 2013. This raises the question if the GPE address book is still being used by anyone at all. OTOH, having support for a SQL address book is a nice feature.
Proposal:
- rename the config option
--with-sqlite
to--with-gpe
, defaulting to “no” and - completely remove SQLite ver. 2 support.
Any opinions are welcome!
